The 12th IYD celebration is spearheaded by the United Nations Association of the Philippines and United Nations Youth Associations of the Philippines with endorsement from Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Department of Education (DepEd), National Youth Commission (NYC), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines.

10th IYD Advisory and Important Reminders

The 10th IYD Celebration is hosted by the City of Makati. Makati, is one of the cities that make up Metro Manila, the greater metropolitan area of the national capital region of the Philippines. It is the major financial, commercial and economic hub in the Philippines, often referred to as the financial capital of the Philippines since many global companies have their offices and headquarters in the city. Makati is also home to the influential Makati Business Club and the Philippine Stock Exchange. Ayala Avenue, running through the heart of downtown Makati Central Business District is often called the Wall Street of the Philippines. Transportation and Travel
The Secretariat will arrange the accommodation, food, and local transport requirements of all official delegates. There will be no transportation available to fetch the official delegates at the airport. All participants must arrange their arrival in Manila on August 4th or 5th to the assigned convenor not later than July 24, 2009. Please arrange your departure on August 7th or 8th. If you are planning to participate in optional programs please make sure to schedule your arrival and departure accordingly.
Attire
Formal clothing is recommended for all events. National dress may also be worn. Some sportis attire (e.g jogging pants) is also required for planned physical activities. The weather is expected to be warm, sunny, humid and rainy throughout the period of the IYD celebration

Food and Accommodation
Participants shall be provided with meal stubs for the three - day conference (5 snacks, 2 breakfast, 2 Dinner and 3 Lunch). If meal tickets are lost, the participants will be required to purchase new tickets. For special provisions on food, please inform the secretariat. The accommodation is dormitory type air-conditioned with limited twin-sharing rooms. Check-in time shall be August 5, 2009 at 8:00 am and Check-out time shall be on August 7, 2009 at 12:00 noon (2 nights and 3 days). Insurance and Liability for Loss
Participants are responsible to arrange their own travel insurance. The 10th IYD Celebration and Conference Secretariat is not responsible for loss of private property (such as luggage, gadgets, wallets etc). For personal medical conditions, please consult your health insurance carrier about international travel and prepare all the necessary documents in the event of an emergency. This should include but not be limited to the exact contact information of your doctors, prescription details, etc.

Manila Ocean Park promotes contests on Marine Life education among Youth leaders

The Manila Ocean Park, the first state-of-the-art indoor oceanarium in the Philippines, in coordination with the United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP) through its youth arm, the United Nations Youth Association of the Philippines (UNYAP), will sponsor a series of competitions aimed at enhancing awareness on Philippine marine biodiversity protection among youth leaders of today.


The project is in connection with the 10th International Youth Day Celebration and Youth and Educators Summit for the Millennium Development Goals (YES 4 MDGs!) to be held on August 5-7, 2009 at the University of Makati (UMAK) Little Theater through the sponsorship of the the City of Makati through the leadership of Mayor Jejomar C Binay.



With the theme, “Sustainability: Our Challenge, Our Future: Countdown to 2015,” the conference will gather 300 international and local youth delegates from Asia Pacific Region and different parts of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Participants include SK Federation Presidents, Student Council Presidents and community youth leaders. International speakers from UNDP, UNESCO, UNV, UNFPA and other local experts are also invited.



The event’s culmination will be the awarding of UN Outstanding Youth Leaders at the Malacañang Palace with Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as guest of honor.



The contests—On-the-Spot-Painting, On-the-Spot Essay Writing, On-the-Spot Extemporaneous Speech, and a Quiz Bowl—are open to youth leaders in both high school and college levels and SK officers who are official delegates of the 10th International Youth Day celebration. The series of contests on marine life education and advocacy will be held at the Manila Ocean Park Activity Plaza on August 6, 2009 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. The event will culminate with THE BAND STAND concert. Announcement of winners and awarding of prizes will be done towards the end of the concert. Prizes for the four contests sponsored by Manila Ocean Park include: 1st Prize 6 Oceanarium tickets with Boat Ride and Fish Spa, Lunch or Dinner at Makansutra for 6 persons (with free visit at Food Museum), Free Accommodation at Hotel H2O, 2nd Price 3 Oceanarium Tickets, Lunch or Dinner at Makansutra for 3 persons (with free visit at Food Museum), and 3rd Price 3 Oceanarium Tickets. Deadline Extended for the Submission of Nomination to the UNAP Search for Outstanding Youth Leaders: July 29, 2009






In cognizance with the 10th International Youth Day Celebration on August 5-7, 2009 at Makati City, United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP) announces its search for Outstanding Youth Service Award. The award aims to recognize and promote the achievements of young Filipinos; educate the general public through the achievements of Model Youth; and motivate young Filipino across educational ladder to integrate leadership and services in their chosen field of endeavor.

UNAP-OYSA has ten (10) award categories namely: culture and the arts, community service, differently-abled youth, education, environment, young indigenous achievers, science and technology, health and sports, young entrepreneurs, politics and government services.

The nominees will be adjudged using the general criteria: academic achievements, personal goals and other achievements, degree of involvement in local, national and international issues, significant contributions made in the awards category. The distributions of points is as follows: innovation (30 points), leadership (50 points), and partnerships (20 points).

The winners will be recognized and awarded during three-day Conference at the Malacanang Palace with her excellency President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, as Guest of Honor.

10th International Youth Day Celebration Launched at the Manila Ocean Park







The 10th International Youth Day celebration was launched last July 17, 2009 at the Manila Ocean Park spearheded by the United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP) through its youth arm, the United Nations Youth Association of the Philippines (UNYAP). The main highlight of the celebration is a 3-day conference dubbed as YES 4 MDGs! or Youth and Educators Summit for the Millennium Development Goals to be held on August 5-7, 2009 at the University of Makati (UMAK) Grand Theater, Makati City. This project aims to mobilize young people to take concrete actions to end poverty by 2015 as prescribed by the United Nations and the Philippines as signatory to the Millennium Development Goals Campaign. This year’s IYD host is the City of Makati through the leadership of Mayor Jejomar C Binay. The National Youth Commission (NYC), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) endorsed the participation of youth leaders and SK chairmen nationwide through a memorandum.
