We are pleased to inform you and your institution that the 12th International Youth Day (IYD) Celebration and Youth and Educators Summit for the Millennium Development Goals (YES4MDGs!) is scheduled on August 3-7, 2011 at the Sarabia Manor Hotel and Convention Center, Iloilo City, Philippines. The 12th IYD celebration is spearheaded by the United Nations Association of the Philippines and United Nations Youth Associations of the Philippines with endorsement from Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Department of Education (DepEd), National Youth Commission (NYC), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines.

NYC SUPPORTS THE 12TH IYD CELEBRATION







Judge Aurora Navarette-Reciña the former Chairman of the Commission of Human Rights and now the President of United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP) and Undersecretary Leon Flores III the newly appointed Chairman of the National Youth Commission (NYC) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the two institutions regarding the 12th International Youth Day Celebration last Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the NYC Office in Bookman Building, Quezon Ave.

With the theme, “Volunteering for MDGs: Discover the Volunteer in You,” 12th IYD aims to mobilize one thousand (1000) youth leaders in the Asia Pacific Region on current issues and concerns and to promote volunteerism among young people especially in the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals by 2015 at the Sarabia Manor Hotel and Convention Center, Iloilo City on August 3 to 7, 2011.  This is in support of United Nations General Assembly Resolution # 64/134 Proclamation of August 2010-August 2011 as International Year of the Youth (IYY), Executive Order No. 229 Declaring Every August 12 of every year as the Philippine International Youth Day and Presidential Proclamation 92 declaring the year 2011 as 10th Anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers (IYV +10) in the Philippines, in line with the global theme, “Volunteering for MDGs.”

Aside from local experts who will engage the participants for an open exchange of diverse perspectives on contemporary global challenges especially the attainment of the MDGs, international speakers were invited. Among the confirmed speakers are: Dr. Jaqueline Badcock UN Resident Coordinators from New Zealand, Khalifa Zayid of SQU University in Muscat, Oman, Jake Cheng of University of New Brunswick from Wuvuan-Jungxi, China, Tsuyoshi Sotty, Tokyo, Japan, Anniken Celina Grinvoll of UNESCO Bangkok, Thailand, Mark Cheng, Founder of Avelife Foundation, Singapore, Vannarith Chheang of CSIS Southeast Asia Program in Phnom Pen, Cambodia and Roshidul Hasan Bangabandhu of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University Gazipur, Bangladesh and Siska Kusumadewi of Udayana University Bali, Indonesia.

  1. Glad to come across this post. Have been attending few youth conferences and found them really good and informative. Last month went to one of corporate events NYC where there was a big concert arranged on youth day. And some famous personalities were there who made this day more amazing with their inspiring words.
