The Stand Up, Take Action against Poverty for the Millennium Development Goals popularly knows as SUTA is a three day global mobilization to send a loud and clear message from citizen to leaders of rich and poor countries to take urgent action to achieve the MDGs. The activities will coincide with the international celebration of the UN World Food Day (October 16) and the Un International Day for Poverty Eradication (October 17). Last year’s campaign registered 116 million people mobilized around the world. The Philippines broke all records with more than 1/3 of its population Standing Up and Taking Action against poverty (35.2 million Filipinos). The campaign this year will take place on October 16-18, 2009 with special focus on mobilizing policy makers to take concrete actions for the passage of important legislation to achieve the targets of the MDGs.
