12th INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!


We are pleased to inform you and your institution that the 12th International Youth Day (IYD) Celebration and Youth and Educators Summit for the Millennium Development Goals (YES4MDGs!) is scheduled on August 3-7, 2011 at the Sarabia Manor Hotel and Convention Center, Iloilo City, Philippines. The 12th IYD celebration is spearheaded by the United Nations Association of the Philippines and United Nations Youth Associations of the Philippines with endorsement from Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Department of Education (DepEd), National Youth Commission (NYC), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines.

UNESCO’s Summit on Sustainable Development held






Following UNESCO Headquarters initiative on First Collection of Good Practices for Quality Education in 2008 and Youth Empowerment Series for MDGs, Philippine National Commission for UNESCO and the United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP) conducted the Youth and Educator’s Summit on Education for Sustainable Development (YES 4 ESD!) at the St. Benedictine Nuns Formation Center, Salong, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro last April 27-28, 2009.

Ms. Ethel Valenzuela, UNESCO Commissioner served as Keynote Speaker among the 100 participants coming from Association of Local Colleges and Universities (ALCU), UNESCO Associated Schools Network (ASPnet) and United Nations Youth Association of the Philippines (UNYAP). Dr. Rene M. Colocar, ASPnet National Coordinator challenged the participants to be an advocate of ESD in their own communities and schools by organizing programs and projects that will help in the promotion of just, sustainable and peaceful Philippine Society. UNAP Board member Prof. Serafin A. Arviola Jr., also gave a talk on MDG promotion through the Stand UP, Take Action (SUTA) Campaign of the United Nations while Ms. Ana Elzy Ofreneo of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) and a UNAP Board member provided the participants an incisive speech about the important of human rights promotion in the attainment of the eight Millennium Development Goals.

Other UNAP Officers joined the delegation that includes the Vice President for Internal Affairs Dr. Emiliana Tadeo and National Treasurer, Dr. Rose Sambrano of Pateros Technological College. UNYAP participants to the summit were headed by Mr. Mazen Khayat, Vice President for Luzon, Mr. Jervin Formoso Ilocos Regional Coordinator and Randy Bulaquit, Cagayan Valley Regional Coordinator. After the summit UNAP and UNYAP officers and members hold an environmental field exposure in Puerto Galera Marine Park also in Oriental Mindoro.
